Who you are dealing with

About

Kalkman Digital is one person: me, Toby Kalkman. I build the sites, I design the brands, I do the search work, and I answer the messages.

Why a one-person studio

The usual way a web project goes wrong is a handover: sold by one person, built by another, and by the time anything needs fixing the person who understood the job has moved on. There is no handover here because there is nobody to hand over to.

The trade-off is honest: I take on a limited number of jobs at a time, and if I am full I will say so rather than take your deposit and sit on it.

How I work

We talk about what your business actually needs before anything is designed. You get a fixed price in writing. I build it, you see it while it is being built rather than at the end, and you tell me what is wrong while it is still cheap to change.

When it is done, the code is yours. If you want me to keep looking after it, the monthly package covers that; on a one-off build, later changes are charged by the hour when you ask for them. If you want to take it elsewhere, you can, and I will help you move it.

What belongs here, and what does not

Kalkman Digital is the growing half: a new website, a complete brand, being found in search and in AI answers, and a ground-up look at the tech you already run. Custom software sits here too, but only for businesses whose website I build or look after.

The rest has its own name so you always know who owns the job. Software with no site attached is Kalkman Code. Day-to-day IT support — the backups, the email, the laptop that will not start — is Kalkman Tech. All of them are me, and I would rather send you next door than sell you something under the wrong heading.

Where I am, and how that works

I am based in Lowestoft, Suffolk, and the work is done remotely. That is deliberate rather than a limitation. It keeps the cost down, because you are not paying for me to sit in a van, and it means a business in Lowestoft and a business in Ipswich get the same attention on the same day.

Being local still matters for the parts where it counts. I know the towns your customers are searching from, I know which trades are competitive around here, and I am in the same time zone and the same working week as you. If you would rather do the first conversation face to face, ask and we will sort something out.
